D-ITET & the Quantum Flagship Project
The Quantum Flagship is the EU’s major research programme dedicated to developing quantum-based technologies. Researchers at D-ITET play a major role in one of the projects selected and officially announced at the Quantum Technology Kick-off in Vienna this week.
Capitalizing on world-leading expertise in Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Spectroscopy at D-ITET’s Institute for Biomedical Engineering, the MetaboliQs Flagship project leverages high quantum coherence and quantum control of diamond nitrogen vacancies to offer a breakthrough in metabolic MRI - a high-throughput Diamond Polarizer.
Using the Diamond Polarizer, a cost-effective approach to hyperpolarized MRI for metabolic studies of the heart and other organs is envisaged. As part of the MetaboliQs consortium, Prof. Kozerke and his team (www.cmr.ethz.ch) strive to develop and implement this novel concept of biomedical imaging.
