Prof. Florian Dörfler on the power grid of the future
Are wind and sun upsetting the power grid? Hydroelectric and nuclear power plants are stable enough to cover the electricity demand even in the case of strong fluctuations. Whether this also works with sun and wind is uncertain. Together with other experts, prof. Florian Dörfler gives an outlook on the power grid of the future at www.republik.ch.
Nils Wistoff received Best paper award

Frodo: a non-invasive, unobtrusive, and continuous bladder monitoring in real time
Frodo is not only a brave hobbit of the Shire, but a smart urinary bladder volume monitor that can bring down the use of catheter insertions and hence reduce the incidence of urinary tract infections and other associated complications. It has been conceived, designed and developed due to a successful collaboration among the D-ITET PBL Center (Dr. Michele Magno), D-ITET IIS (Prof. Luca Benini) and D-HEST (Prof. Simone Schürle).
Prof. Johann Kolar elected to the "National Academy of Engineering"
Prof. Johann Kolar, head of the Power Electronic Systems Laboratory (PES), has been elected to the US National Academy of Engineering (NAE) "for contributions to power-electronic technologies, multiobjective design optimization, education, and technology transfer to industry." Election to the NAE is among the highest professional distinctions accorded to an engineer.
