Center of Project-Based Learning (PBL) showcased smart patches and sensors
PBL's latest projects attracted a great number of visitors at “Scientifica 2021” and “ETH Industry Day 2021”. One of the highlights was a wearable smart sensor that non-invasively monitors the urine volume in the bladder.

About one-fifth of all hospital patients receive a catheter to monitor urinary bladder volume. Catheterization is invasive, uncomfortable and a major cause of infections in hospitals.
At this year's Scientifica, held on 4 and 5 September, an interdisciplinary team around Michele Magno and the D-ITET Center for Project-Based learning, IIS and the D-HEST Responsive Biomedical Systems Lab, showed their latest research with a wearable smart sensor that non-invasively monitors the urine volume in the bladder.
The stand at “Scientifica” also presented a wide range of smart patches designed at PBL also with the support from undergraduate students. Michele Magno (PBL), Tommaso Polonelli (PBL), Philipp Mayer (IIS) and Kanika Dheman (D-HEST) presented the smart patches to the interested audience, among them some children, eager to test the patches themselves.
