ARIS-D-ITET-PBL CubeSat team SAGE wins ESA support for Fly Your Satellite Design Booster
The Swiss Artificial Gravity Experiment SAGE, an interdisciplinary team of students highly supported by the Center for Project-Based Learning (PBL) as D-ITET flagship project, got selected as one of six teams to enter a pilot scheme by the European Space Agency (ESA). The Fly Your Satellite Design Booster offers a 1.5-year programme of individual expert training, review support, and access to testing facilities by ESA.
Prof. Mehmet Fatih Yanik and his team receive the BRIDGE Discovery Award
Prof. Mehmet Fatih Yanik, head of the Neurotechnology Group of UZH and ETH Zurich, and his team recently developed a novel technology for non-invasive focal drug delivery to the brain circuits using focused ultrasound. The project receives the BRIDGE Discovery Award, funded by SNSF and Innosuisse.
Projects and seminars: Finding practical solutions for the energy turnaround
The new P&S course "Erneuerbare Energien und Netto-Null-Emissions-Ziel in der Schweiz" was taught for the first time by Prof. Christian Franck and Prof. Gabriela Hug. In this course the students dealt with different topics concerning the energy turnaround in Switzerland. Of 60 students who applied, only 24 were able to participate, so the second edition of the course will follow next semester.
Elvis Nava: Teaching robots to carry out oral and written commands
Elvis Nava, doctoral student in Prof. Benjamin Grewe's group at the Institute of Neuroinformatics, is the person controlling the robot hand developed by ETH start-up Faive Robotics. He sends the robots to "training camps" where they learn to combine image, text and motion data.
Third edition of the Outstanding TA Awards (OTA) at D-ITET
On 14 December the Outstanding Teaching Assistant Awards were granted for the third time to the best teaching assistants at Bachelor's and Master's level at D-ITET. The winners are Lina de Windt (Technische Mechanik, 1st semester BSc) Doruk Bekatli (Digitaltechnik-Praktikum, 1st semester BSc), and Roland Schmid (Discrete Event Systems, 5th semester BSc / 1st Semester MSc) Congratulations!

New Head of Department
D-ITET is happy to announce the election of the new Head of Department as of 1 January 2023. Prof. Jürg Leuthold will be the new Head of Department and Prof. Gabriela Hug will become Deputy Head of Department. Prof. Sebastian Kozerke will remain Director of Studies. Prof. Mathieu Luisier will remain Delegate for Communication and PR.
