Hasan Hassan receives an EDAA Outstanding Dissertation Award 2023
Hasan Hassan, researcher from SAFARI research group, has been awarded the EDAA Outstanding Dissertation Award 2023 for his dissertation titled "Improving DRAM Performance, Reliability, and Security by Rigorously Understanding Intrinsic DRAM operations." Congratulations!
The award was presented to him at the DATE 2023 conference on April 18, 2023. The thesis was recognized for its innovative approach towards safety, reliability, security-aware hardware design, validation, and testing.
In his dissertation, Hasan devised new methodologies and testing infrastructures to gain a thorough understanding of the operational principles of modern DRAM chips. He then utilized this understanding to develop novel mechanisms to enhance memory performance, reliability, and security. Since DRAM is the primary memory technology used in most computers today, it is a bottleneck in many applications and use cases, and its performance, energy, reliability, and security are critical issues in modern and future computing systems. These issues become more critical as the process technology node scales into smaller feature sizes and as applications become more data-intensive while attackers become more advanced.
