Pragash Sivananthaguru: developing underwater robots for diving

Tethys, an ETH spin-off, has created an underwater robot capable of operating in hazardous conditions that would pose risks to human divers. Pragash Sivananthaguru, one of the founders, did his Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering at D-ITET and then completed a master's degree in biomedical engineering.

The start-up emerged as a result of the efforts of Jonas Wüst and Pragash Sivananthaguru, who are Pioneer Fellows at ETH Zurich. Initially a student project, it has now become a highly sought-after venture. The underwater robot developed by this start-up has already been employed by various local authorities for underwater search and rescue missions.

Once the robot identifies its objective, a human operator takes control of the navigation and guides the robot diver towards the target. The Tethys robot is capable of transporting weights of up to 40 kg back to the surface. This enables the emergency services to allocate their attention to other crucial tasks, ensuring the search and rescue operation is conducted with maximum efficiency and safety.
