The third edition of the European Hyperloop Week took place in Edinburgh, Scotland from July 17-23, 2023. Student engineering teams from around the world presented their innovative prototypes to representatives of industry and the public. Swissloop, the engineering student project of ETH Zurich caused a sensation again this year and won several awards.
This year, the 38-member Swissloop team with the innovative Hyperloop prototype "Bertrand Piccard", prevailed against student competitors from all over the world. It won five out of a total of ten awards, including the prestigious "Complete Pod Award" for the best prototype of the entire event.
Swissloop develops innovative prototypes that lay a foundation for the climate-neutral, high-speed passenger transportation of tomorrow. Every year, the team enters a new prototype in the competition and competes with other student teams.
The highlight of the event was the "Demonstration Day" on which the Swissloop team showed its completely hovering and particularly fast prototype in front of a large audience. Then on Sunday, an open day was held where all participating teams exhibited their prototypes in front of the Scottish National Gallery, giving the general public a glimpse into the future of transportation.
The award recognition is a testament to the hard work, innovation and collaborative spirit of the Swissloop team. During Hyperloop Week, the team demonstrated how to push the boundaries of innovation to break new ground in transportation technology.
The Department of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering is a sponsor of Swissloop and, following this year's successes, is eagerly awaiting the team's innovations at Hyperloop Week 2024 in Zurich.
