Empa-researcher Peter Lendway wins first prize at SNSF scientific image competition

Peter Lendway, PhD student in Prof. Mickaël Perrin’s group for Quantum Devices at Empa, was honoured at the annual SNSF competition. He received the first prize in the video category.

The system consists of interdigitated combs that move when an electrical voltage is applied between them. Various nanomaterials can be transferred onto the two tips on the left and strained in a controllable manner.

In collaboration with ETH Zurich, researchers at Empa are creating an electromechanical system capable of applying mechanical tension to nanomaterials. This innovation could lead to electronic components with novel properties, suitable for various quantum technologies, such as information technology, communication, sensor technology, and efficient energy conversion. Empa researcher Peter Lendway was awarded the first prize in the SNSF scientific image competition in the category “video” for his video showing the moving system in action. Congratulations!
