Prof. Gabriela Hug in SRF ‘Echo der Zeit’: "Switzerland could be affected by a major outage"
Prof. Gabriela Hug, Professor for Electric Power Systems, was interviewed by SRF for ‘Echo der Zeit’. Following the major blackout in Spain, she talks about possible reasons and the situation for Switzerland.
Following the widespread power outage on the Iberian Peninsula at the end of April, the search for possible causes continues. Therefore, Prof Gabriela Hug was interviewed by the SRF programme ‘Echo der Zeit’. The Professor for Electric Power Systems names potential reasons for a blackout and comments on the question of whether renewable energies jeopardise grid stability. She also discusses the significance of the large-scale outage for Switzerland. Her conclusion is as follows: "Switzerland may be affected by a major outage in another part of the grid, but the advantages of being embedded in the European network clearly outweigh the disadvantages."
