Exams
Registration for examinations is done by students through myStudies
Since fall 2016, the first-year examinations have been taking place in two blocks. Block A (consisting only of fall semester courses) takes place in winter, after the first semester. Block B (mainly spring semester courses, including two fall semester courses) takes place in summer, after the second semester.
The block exams are written examinations and all examinations of one block must be sat in the same session. A block is passed with a minimum average of 4.0 (weighted). Each block can be repeated once, as a whole. Blocks are composed as follows:
Block A:
- Linear Algebra (weight 2)
- Engineering Mechanics (weight 2)
- Networks and Circuits I (weight 2)
- Digital Circuits (weight 2)
Block B:
- Analysis 1 and 2 (weight 4)
- Complex Analysis (weight 2)
- Computer Science I (weight 2)
- Physics I (weight 2)
- Networks and Circuits II (weight 3)
Courses in the third and fourth semester are examined in blocks. The block exams are written examinations and all examinations of one block must be sat in the same session. A block is passed with a minimum average of 4.0 (weighted by credit points). Each block can be repeated once, as a whole. The first block can be sat after the third semester. Blocks are composed as follows:
Block 1
- Analysis III
- Physics II
- Signal and System Theory I
- Computer Science II
Block 2
- Electronic Circuits
- Discrete Mathematics
- Computer Engineering
- Signal and System Theory II
Block 3
- Numerical Methods
- Electromagnetic Fields and Waves
- Semiconductor Devices
- Probability Theory and Statistics
Core courses
During the third year, students must pass three core courses (or 5 courses under the 2016 regulations). Exams are written and must be passed individually. Each failed exam may be repeated once. Note that some exams are only offered once a year.
Electives und GESS Courses
Other subjects in the third year of study may also be examined orally or through a graded semester performance (usually some small project and/or presentation); they must be passed individually and can be repeated once if failed. Please note that the offering department decides on the mode of examination.
The mandatory laboratory courses in the first, second, and third semester, the projects and seminars and general laboratory courses in the second and third year as well as the internship in industry are graded as either pass or fail. Failed courses can be repeated once. The group project is graded and can also be repeated once.
The first-year block examinations can be sat in any examination session. However, we recommend to sit block A after the first semester and block B after the second semester. Both blocks, including any repetition, must be successfully passed after a maximum two years of study.
All other exams must be successfully passed within the maximum study period of five years. However, we recommend sitting exams in the session immediately following the semester in which you attended the course.
