João Martins Junior was born in Brazil. He received his B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from the Federal University of Technology - Paraná (UTFPR) in 2017. During his undergraduate studies, he participated in an exchange program as a guest student in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Lawrence Technological University (LTU) in Southfield, MI, United States, for one year.
In 2020, he received his M.Sc. in Power Electronics and Electrical Drives from the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC). For his master's thesis, he worked on developing an interleaved converter using droop control techniques for energy transfer between battery banks in automotive charging applications.
From 2019 to 2022, he worked at Progress Rail, a Caterpillar company, where he developed locomotive traction converters and high-power battery chargers.
In August 2022, he began his Ph.D. at the Laboratory for High Power Electronics Systems at ETH Zurich, focusing on ultra-fast, high-power pulse generators.
