Prof. Giacomo Indiveri appointed as Associate Professor
Professor Giacomo Indiveri, currently Associate Professor at the University of Zurich, has been appointed also as Associate Professor of Neuromorphic Cognitive Systems at ETH Zurich, within the Institute of Neuroinformatics (INI).
Prof. Gabriela Hug appointed as Full Professor
Prof. Gabriela Hug, currently Associate Professor at ETH Zurich, has been appointed as Full Professor of Electric Power Systems by the ETH Board.
A “simulation booster” for nanoelectronics
The groups of Prof. Mathieu Luisier from the Integrated Systems Laboratory and Prof. Torsten Hoefler (D-INFK) have developed a method that can simulate nanoelectronics devices and their properties realistically, quickly and efficiently. This offers a ray of hope for the industry and data centre operators alike, both of which are struggling with the (over)heating that comes with increasingly small and powerful transistors – and with the high resulting electricity costs for cooling.
"The human being is always at the centre of our research"
The second interview in our portrait series was conducted with Klaas Enno Stephan, Deputy Head of Department at D-ITET and Professor at the Institute for Biomedical Engineering (IBT) of ETH and the University of Zurich. He talks about his cooperative working environment, explains how mathematical models might help to find the right therapies for psychiatric diseases and how his research contributes to building bridges between medicine and engineering.
D-ITET Welcome Day
A warm welcome to all new students at D-ITET! In the course of the "D-ITET Welcome Day" on 16 September, Director of Studies Prof. Juerg Leuthold, study coordinator Reto Kreuzer as well as representatives from student organizations AMIV, LIMES and SOSETH provided the new students with important information for their start at ETH Zurich.
D-ITET starts with almost 24% growth into first Bachelor's year
For the first time in more than 15 years, the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology will start its first study year with more than 250 Bachelor students, due to an above-average growth of 23.8%. We are happy about this success and wish all new students a good start in their studies at D-ITET!
ERC Starting Grants awarded to Laurent Vanbever and Maksym Yarema
Laurent Vanbever, head of the the Networked Systems Group (NSG), and Maksym Yarema, currently senior scientist at the Institute for Electronics, are among the fifteen talented young researchers from ETH Zurich who will receive an ERC Starting Grant.
First all-metamaterial, integrated gas sensor developed at D-ITET
The simple, low-power sensor is ideal for "Internet of Things" and smart home devices. It is enabled by specially engineered synthetic materials known as metamaterials, has no moving parts and is among the smallest NDIR sensors ever created. Authors of the paper "Ultra-Compact All-Metamaterial NDIR CO2 Sensor" are Alexander Lochbaum, Yuriy Fedoryshyn, and Juerg Leuthold from the Institute of Electromagnetic Fields (IEF).
