Master's Graduation Ceremony at D-ITET held online for the first time
Due to the Corona pandemic, this year's D-ITET Master's Ceremony was held online via livestream from Audimax on 26 June 2020. Around 130 graduates of the Master's programmes in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, Biomedical Engineering and Energy Science and Technology watched the first online Master's celebration at ETH Zurich together with family and friends.
The live broadcast from Audimax was hosted by D-ITET's Director of Studies Prof. Jürg Leuthold and was musically accompanied on site by the group "Musique en route" with folk music from the eastern world.
Guest speaker Dr. Karlheinz Gulden, Senior Vice President and General Manager at II-VI Laser Enterprise, Zurich, gave an insight into laser technology and its applications but also in his own career with tips for the graduates. In her diploma speech, Lucia Liu, MSc in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, shared her personal experiences during her Master's studies and encouraged her co-graduates to aim for a world of technology where females are not an exception.
The eight recipients of the ETH medal (best Master's thesis) and the Willi Studer Prize (best student) were allowed to receive their award in person from Prof. Leuthold. Another highlight of the online event was the virtual congratulations sequence for all graduates, featuring pictures and videos the graduates recorded at home.
After watching the livestream of the ceremony, the graduates had the opportunity to join an informal "Meet&Greet" Zoom call.
