Niklas Schmid is a PhD student at the Automatic Control Laboratory, ETH Zürich, since November 2021, under the supervision of Professor John Lygeros. He obtained his MSc and BSc degree in 2021 and 2019, respectively, from the University of Lübeck, Germany, where he specialized in Medical Engineering. In 2020, he carried out a six-month internship at Olympus Surgical Technologies, working on the control of electrosurgical generators.
His researchfocuses on safety specifications for the control of stochastic systems, which includes the analysis of reachability, invariance, and chance-constrained optimal control problems. Therefore, he utilizes tools from dynamic programming and convex optimization.
